This information is put here because eighties occurs first alphabetically, but it applies equally to nineties, twenties, thirties, and so on. These words, whether denoting decades or the years of a person's life, are spelt without an initial apostrophe, i.e. eighties, not 'eighties. The years from 2000 to 2009 are sometimes informally called the noughties (based on the noughts on which the numbers are formed).
